WHERE & WHEN: 2013 Kids’ Inaugural concert at the Washington Convention Center on January 19, 2013.
WEARING: Alexander McQueen
MY VERDICT: For the Kids’ Inaugural: Our Children, Our Future concert to celebrate military families, our First Lady opted for an Alexander McQueen suit ensemble. Mrs. O spoke on-stage wearing a white asymmetric tunic and black straight leg from the Resort 2011 collection, which just so happens to be an outfit she’s apparently very fond—she has been seen wearing it once before while meeting with students at the University of Oxford.
I know the new bob haircut and blunt bangs that Michelle has been sporting has become the hottest style around, and that salons are getting multiple phone calls in from ladies seeking the ‘do—but, I’m not into it. She has such a pretty face, and I feel like the cut is both distracting and too heavy for her.
FLOTUS topped her look off with a dark pop of color—garnet low heel pumps.
WEARING: Reed Krakoff dress, J. Crew cardigan
MY VERDICT: When President Barack Obama took his oath of office in the Blue Room of the White House on Sunday, Michelle and their daughters Malia and Sasha were close-by. FLOTUS looked pretty in a simple, but classic silhouette with a lovely blue floral pattern. Her printed a-line dress was designed by Reed Krakoff while her cropped blue cardigan comes from J. Crew. I thought the look was very appropriate for the event, and although I’m still not feeling the bangs, the style wasn’t as heavy with the outfit. She finished off with pewter pointed toe low-heel pumps.
WEARING: Michael Kors
MY VERDICT: Mrs. O got a bit more glam on Sunday night for the Inaugural Reception where she donned a shimmering black sequin Michael Kors boat neck dress, which fell at her knees with a swinging hemline. I love how this fit her athletic frame; classic, sassy and beautiful. Although Michelle toned things down a bit with black satin kitten heel pumps, she complimented the dazzling embroidery with statement diamond earrings and matching stacked bracelets.
WHERE & WHEN: Presidential Inauguration 2013 Ceremony on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol January 21, 2013.
WEARING: Michelle – Thom Brown dress and coat, J.Crew belt and gloves, Cathy Waterman jewelry & Reed Krakoff boots; Malia – J. Crew; Sasha – Kate Spade coat and dress.
MY VERDICT: During the official public ceremony for Inauguration Day 2013, Michelle bundled up in a very chic custom-made Thom Browne navy pattern coat and matching dress that was worn underneath. A similar dress was featured within the Pre-Fall 2013 collection by the designer, but I have to say I’m really into Mrs. O’s outwear style with that embellished J. Crew belt. She added a contrast bright pop of color with purple leather J. Crew gloves, which I love! I can’t say that I’m really into the pairing of the dark Reed Krakoff combo boots as I prefer the grey J. Crew pumps she had been seen wearing earlier in the day (not pictured).
I have to say that the only thing I really don’t like about this is the hairstyle, still. For me, that changes the whole look—even though I like what she wore, for the most part. In the grand scope of things, her hair isn’t a big deal, but I just like it pre-fringe.
Michelle’s daughters wore complimenting purple looks; Malia stepped out in a full J. Crew ensemble—love that burgundy scarf—while Sasha donned a Kate Spade New York coat and dress. They both look cute, but does Sasha almost look too grown up for 11-years-old? Maybe pulling those curls up into a ponytail would have been better suited for her.
